1) The Minnesota Twins... It was a good run, and ya know what it really was. In my opinion this club finished up at 95% of their potential. With J Morneau and J Crede out and watching the team all year is it any shock the Yankee's of New York swept the Twins ? Good job by the Twins for keeping it competitive but this team has some big issues and in a 5 game playoff series the hot team wins. This team has some issues to deal with if they want to improve next year, but that is for a later date. Hope the last 2 Home Playoff Games didn't add to much cash to the Pohlad Family Tho...

2)Alcohol Commercials... Most drinkers have there brand(s) of go to alcohol... whether your Don Draper with a fine Whiskey or Homer Simpson with Duff Beer. BUT... a good, no clever commercial can swing sales, it can make a person standing at Joseph's Liquor "Hey I think I will pick this up". Best example being the Dos Equis - Most Interesting Man in the World Series. This add campaign reach major pop culture status. What I am wondering is why don't more minor alcohol providers aim high with advertising. Dos Equis and 1800 Tequila are the only brands I can think of... C'mon Sailor Jerry and Rolling Rock, make me a believer!

3)Gambling... Today's gambling minute is my complaint that I can bet on WNBA games on Sportsbook.com but not college hockey. I attended 2 college hockey games (Minnesota State v. Bowling Green) this weekend... yet I cannot bet on this. This makes me upset. I can bet on WNBA, USFL Football, and Tim Pawlenty's odds of gaining the Republican National Endorsement for President in 2012... BUT NO COLLEGE HOCKEY! This makes me upset because as we know, the two best things for winning at sports betting are Less Sports Prominence (The WNBA is less popular then the NFL thus harder for Las Vegas to handicap) and I have more inside information on College Hockey than any other sports. The hunt now begins for a service to take my UMD Bulldogs v Michigan Tech Saturday Night Special Bets.

4)Grocery Store Shopping... When is the best time to Grocery Shop ? Is their one ? Say you go after work... nope to busy. You go Late Night ? Nope store is half stocked and the deli is closed. Weekends ... NO CHANCE! Mid-Morning to Mid Day ... YES! Now you have to be free and be up but this is the time to hit up the grocery store. Everything is out, everything is fresh, people there want to ... no they need to be there, and the deli is open and you can get 4 free samples and just buy one item! If you have the opportunity, hit up your local Cub Foods at 11AM on a Tuesday. You will not be disappointed.

5)Vikings Update... Team is 5-0... Did something again this year that no Childress Vikings Team has done.. Continue to KILL bad teams, no close wins just beating a team. I have my dad calling me, breaking news to me like he is a middle aged Sid Hartman that Farve says this is the best team he has played on. With Farve joining the team last you have to believe the offense has not peaked yet. That Chemistry is just going to improve. Find a weakness... please find me a weakness. Even Childress has shown the ability to make SECOND HALF ADJUSTMENTS which he never has. Major Dad has this squad in a position I like liking.

The Original

Welcome to the Fab Five blog! A daily... well weekly... well somewhere in between column on 5 talking points, happenings, highway directions, and/or meaningless dribble. 5 not 4 not 7 just a nice round number to satisfy the mind and that little bit of OCD that everyone has. Lets begin:

1) The Vikings
- The team starts out perfect at 2-0 so can you really complain ? Well Yes but at the current time whats the point. One thing I do like is the team doing 2 things that they haven't done in a long time. Pounding inferior competition (2 for 2 on covering the point spread this season) and playing as a second half team. The number one knock on Childress from people who actually know football is that his teams get beat in the second half. This year so far that is not the case, in fact the Vikings are excelling in the second half. We will just have to wait n watch if this continues, but I don't see Sean Hill running up and down the field at Metrodome this weekend.

2) Television
- I live in a large house with a bunch of college guys, so I get to see what people watch. Obviously this is one age group or "demo" but there is some variety. What I don't get is why don't people like good television unless your a critic. People watch mindless shows like Real World (which is so dead, used to be good, now so so dead) and The Biggest Loser... yet shows like Arrested Development get canceled and Mad Men gets crappy ratings. Yet a large majority of people and intellects see any TV as mindless. I say why cant watching quality shows, sports, and a little History Channel and HBO be just as mental as reading the new Michael Crichton novel ? Just as much as TV can be mindless it can also be a 3x10 on the mental bench press... plus ya can't enjoy some Taco Bell while reading War and Peace. TV SHOW TO PEEP : Real Time w/ Bill Maher --- Don't agree will all of his points, but the show gets you thinking, keeps you informed and will make you laugh... 10 times what Katie and the CBS Nightly News will bring you.

3) Only in College
-My only in college moment of the week happened last Thursday. I was one house down the street walking to class and a G-Unit looking kid pops out of a house runs down and asks me if he can buy a cigarette from me ( Great move the ask if you can buy the cigarette because no true smoker will charge you and it just sounds nice, best empty gesture yet). I gave him a naw man all out, and got to catch him 20 seconds later dancing by the side walk. Now this same kid shows up at a party at my house that night and he is slamming Budwiser and asking if a roomate of mine is gay and wears eye make-up (Which he doesn't but its the kid who asking that question gets a great laugh out of the whole room). What took the cake was when I found out this kid, G-Unit sneakers and all is like 16.... only in college.

4) Facebook
-Your mom has facebook. She has friends who have facebook. Hell your Grandmother might have facebook. Why has no option come up to replace it ? Yes most people run in seperate social circles but every once in a while you see your friends wall and his Aunt wrote on it. How are you supposed to write how drunk he got Saturday Night or comment on how great any local sports team is or in it when you see Aunt Cathy saying how great it was to see the person at Grandma's last weekend.... you cant! Just do what I do, what Bill Clinton would do. Don't ask, Don't tell. My mom does have facebook, and I have never asked to be her friend... and she has never asked to be mine. And thats the way it should be.

5) Gambling
- I love gambling. The idea that the mind can be used to risk money to gain money by nay luck, but cunning, skill, and bravado.... this is what gambling does to me. Now I love many forms of gambling but that would take up a whole Fab Five coloumn and Football picks will come later in the week. Let me just say this, the 2 forms of gambling that dont do it for me ??? Pull Tabs and Slot Machines... I would rather bet the color of car coming down the street or on youth sports then these things, then again betting on youth sports could just be the future.
